Action Item from EURALO General Assembly: The EURALO leaders will submit a proposal in writing for possible Bylaw changes to the regional members. The proposed changes will include provisions to include unaffiliated members and review the term limits for Board members. They will also look into a possible alignment of all EURALO elections.

According to the EURALO Bylaws Board members, including Board officers, can serve for no more than two consecutive two-year terms. The following options for the EURALO term limits should be considered. You find the comments from Wolf, Olivier and Sebastien below.

A. No term limits

No term limits for Board member and Board officers.
To eliminate all term limits,  the last subset of EURALO Bylaw rule 9.5.1 would need to be deleted:

9.5.1 The members of the Board shall be elected by the General Assembly for a period of up to two years, such term beginning with the date of election, renewable at the pleasure of the General Assembly, for not more than two consecutive terms.

B. Term limits for Board Officers only

No term limits for Board members, a limit of 3 consecutive terms for the Board Officers.

To eliminate the term limits for Board members and extend the term limits for Board Officers to three,  EURALO Bylaw rule 9.5.1 could be amended as follows:

9.5.1 The members of the Board shall be elected by the General Assembly for a period of up to two years, such term beginning with the date of election, renewable at the pleasure of the General Assembly. for not more than two consecutive terms The officers of the Board shall not be eligible to serve for more than three consecutive terms.

C. Status Quo

Term limit of two consecutive terms for Board members and Board Officers.

Comments:

Olivier Crépin-Leblond: I am unsure about the term limits. I can understand that there was probably a term limit to start with, in order not to have the same people again and again, sticking to the same position.

Sebastien Bachollet: Maybe no term limit to be Board members and a 3 terms limit for both Chair and Secretariat. By the way we need to review the bylaws to have a real Secretariat
position in accordance with our practices.

Wolf Ludwig: Regarding Term limits of EURALO Officers, I am not sure whether it would be the best solution just to drop the respective
Bylaw provision (9.5.1 - because limitations can make sense as well as a "general" rule if there is no prescription for a "dogmatic" application. Annette's point during our GA was "to bring it in linewith ALAC rules" ...
