1. Activity: Please describe your proposed activity in detail

This same request was submitted for FY16 Budget, but the Finance department and/or the BFC rejected it because of the organization in Marrakech of the GAC high-level meeting; they stated that priority would be given to an AFRALO General Assembly in FY17. It will be a face to face general assembly of one representative of each African ALS at ICANN 59 (26-29 Jun 2017), and will include daily capacity building sessions for the ALS representatives.

3. Deliverables. What are the desired outcomes of your proposed activity?

  • The new AFRALO Operating Principles adopted (including individual affiliation, weighted votes, metrics of performance and remediation process, decertification, criteria for ALS certification).
  • More knowledge and information given to the ALS representatives through a pre-defined capacity building and program
  • More skills given to the ALS representatives through a facilitation training.
  • More engagement with the local ccTLD, and more broadly with all ccTLDs through joint working sessions with the ccNSO to build bridges between the 2 communities and establish action plan for a real synergy in the future.

4. Metrics. What measurements will you use to determine whether your activity achieves its desired outcomes?

  • Adoption of the AFRALO new Operating Principles
  • More participation of the AFRALO ALSes in the policy development activities in ALAC and ICANN
  • More participation in the working groups
  • Better quality of participation (not only attending, but also debating, drafting and making the Africa voice heard)
  • More and better participation in the AFRALO monthly calls
  • Real links built between the ALSes and their respective ccTLDs (participation of the ALSes in the ccTLD policy development and any other activities, and participation of the ccTLDs in all the ALSes activities on the ground and in the ICANN arena.

Teleconferences and onsite activities need adobe connect and telephone calls for those who couldn’t make it

  • Document translation into French

Interpretation of all teleconferences (Preparation) and the whole activity session onsite (English and French)

Travel Support:

One representative from each African ALSes certified before 30 September 2016 to be supported to attend the ICANN 59 meeting scheduled to take place in Africa (Airfare + Accommodation + subsistence cost).

 

 

Potential/planned Sponsorship Contribution:

Sponsorship will be sought to assist with the cost of the event.
