2.2 Discussion Items (XX)

ITEM 009: ICANN 61 Face to Face At-Large Regional Leadership Meeting Agenda

LEAD: Eduardo Díaz

OPEN: 27 February 2018, CLOSED: 27 February 2018

DESCRIPTION: This discussion item was created to create the agenda for the face to face At-Large Regional Leadership meeting that will be held during the ICANN 61 Public Meeting in Puerto Rico. Suggested ides are:

  • Election time line : To synchronize election time lines across all Ralos
  • Individual members (ITEM 006) : Continue discussions on how RALOs are implementing it and reach agreement on ways forward to standardize the treatment of individual members across all Ralos
  • Hot topics : To reach agreement on what are the two most important current policy issues affecting end-users and develop an understanding on how each region should generate a policy advise statements for ALAC consideration on these.

→ 27  February 2018: [Recording: 29:32]  [Discussion]: The following items were selected to be in the Face to Face agenda: Hot Topics - How can we use these to develop policy advise from the region, Individual Membership - We are doing different things in different RALOs. How can we do things in a similar way so there’s no confusion between organizations about how they do this?, CROP and other Outreach Programs -  The most important way that you can bring people and continue bringing new people and new ideas into this discussion is by going out there and telling people what ICANN does and for them to come and participate. To do this you need to have in place well defined and supported outreach programs. These are in the process of being eliminated or have been eliminated all together. For example, Outreach and engagement without CROP is an important thing to discuss. What can us as region do to mitigate this trend?, Showcases -  Do we need to collect the showcase more to successes that we have in our policy work or our ALS’s policy work relating to ICANN? Should we shift the focus of these events?,  Metrics and accountability,  Best practices from each RALO showcasing the best of the best and finally  Effective communication styles and tools. There was also an agreement to have this meeting every month and be shared by the regional chair of the following ICANN meeting.  [Decision]: Items were defined. Close.

ITEM 010: NCUC-At-Large joint capacity building session

LEAD: Olivier Crepin-Leblond

OPEN: 27 February 2018, CLOSED: 27 February 2018

DESCRIPTION: This item is to announce that there is an NCUC-At-Large joint capacity building session taking place on Saturday 10 March 2018, 15:15-16:45 during the ICANN 61 in Puerto Rico.

→ 27  February 2018: [Recording: 11:50] [Discussion]: Announcement given. [Decision]: Carry forward to next meeting to report on the meeting results

ITEM 005: Secretariat Reports

LEAD: Eduardo Díaz

OPEN: 5 February 2018, CLOSED:

DESCRIPTION: This discussion item was created to reach an understanding about :

  • Is the Wiki page title correct?
  • Why these reports are used for?
  • Who reads them?
  • Are they necessary at all?

05 February 2018:  [Recording: 49:00]  [Discussion]: The usefulness of the monthly RALO Secretariats reports was discussed. Decision to keep reports for now. EURALO: use them as a main repository of information and as evidence of the work performed. It will continue reporting. AFRALO: updated it from time to time but do not see any value. Most probably will not continue to report. NARALO: will continue to report for the time being. A permanent link to the newsletter Wiki may be all that it will be provided. APRALO did not comment. LACRALO: found value in keeping up with the report. Its will continue reporting [Decision]: Carry froward to next meeting to recommend closing this discussion item.

27  February 2018: [Recording: XX] [Discussion]: During ICANN61 there is going to be a discussion on the newsletters in a session on Sunday afternoon for the ALAC  and the regional leadership session. It was suggested to not close this for the time being. The session is not just going to be focused only on the secretariat report but on other items as well such as the ALAC monthly reports, the liaison, and the working group reports. [Decision]: Carry forward to next meeting.
