Session description:
Are you online right now? Maybe you’re on your phone, tablet, or laptop. Maybe you’re even reading messages on your watch! The seamless access to everything on the Internet is akin to the air we breathe. We don’t give it a second thought. Type in a URL and BOOM! You order a product from Nepal. From connecting doctors with patients for better health care to kick-starting the next charitable organization, the Internet can be a tool for tremendous global good. But it can also be a tool for criminal activity. Who keeps a watchful eye over the Internet globally? Is there such a thing as an INTERNET KILL SWITCH? Is the backbone of the Internet safe against attack?

SXSW Festival Description:
The South by Southwest® (SXSW®) Conference & Festivals celebrate the convergence of the interactive, film, and music industries. Fostering creative and professional growth alike, SXSW® is the premier destination for discovery.

10) Proposed Goals and Outcomes:

Content Guidelines (click here)

1) Presentation:

Christian Dawson will be a panelist in a high profile SXSW panel hosted by ICANN. His role will be discussing the importance for people in technical roles, particularly within the ISP community, to be involved in ICANN in order to foster the security, stability and resiliency of the DNS.

2) Engagement/Outreach:

He has reached out to ICANN in hopes that they can assist with videotaping the event in hopes that it can land on the ISPCP website, so that future potential members can use his presentation to guide their own interests in membership.

3) Recruitment:

He has also already actively targeted two ISPCP membership candidates for recruitment purposes and have asked them to attend his session. With Chris Mondini, he will be doing research on attempting to target as many other ISPs as he can, so that there is excellent ISP potential member coverage at the event.

The goal will be two new ISPCP membership sign-ups as a direct result of the event, ideally one within region and one globally - given that SXSW is a global event.
