A pilot ICANN Mentor Program, which is part of the ICANN Fellowship Program, has been implemented between March and June 2014. For the pilot program, the Mentees and Mentors have been selected from among the At-Large community.

Program Outline

The three representatives selected to participate in this pilot program were matched with more experienced community member at least 4-6 weeks before the ICANN 49 Meeting in Singapore.  The mentors and mentees received guidance and a framework of the program prior to the ICANN49 Meeting to allow them to begin to interact and to provide an environment for learning, networking and active participation.  The mentors and mentees maintained online communication right up to the ICANN 49Meeting, where they met for the first time.

Once in Singapore, the mentees and mentors and met with ICANN supporting staff to set the tone for the week ahead. Their meetings included both informal one on ones as well as several informal download sessions with the participants and staff throughout the week.

The selected mentees participated in the Sunday Newcomer Program as well as each of the Fellowship sessions during the ICANN Meeting.

Post meeting, the participants submitted reports evaluating the program and summarizing their experience, including what they feel next steps may be for them going forward.  The mentors will also evaluate the experience and the participants.

The mentoring will continue between Singapore and the ICANN Meeting in London, through continued online courses, collateral and communications.

At ICANN 50, the mentees will be able to participate at a higher level  as well as give back to the community by acting as mentors themselves to Newcomers at the Sunday Newcomer session. At-Large members will also be asked to provide some logistical support for the second At-Large Summit (ATLAS II) that will be held during the ICANN Meeting in London.

After the London meeting week, an evaluation will again be requested from the participants, mentors and the GSE and Policy staff who worked with this pilot program.  A certificate of completion would be provided
