To add a New Comment to a page:

  1. Choose +Add > Comment from the top menu or click the   button at the bottom of the page. To provide more horizontal room to enter comments (or replies), you may find it helpful to collapse the left menu by clicking on the middle icon   located at the top right of the screen immediately below your name.
  2. Type in your comment.
    • Formatting commands are available in the Rich Text Editor on the menu bar (e.g., Bold, Italics, Tables, Bullets). In the leftmost Paragraph drop-down menu, you can also select various heading styles (e.g., Heading1, Heading3), Quote (indents & italicizes text that you copy/paste from another source), and insert a Panel box to separate important text (or image). The Insert menu allows you to upload attachments, insert symbols, use horizontal separators, and add emoticons. Next to Insert is the Link icon which allows you to add hyperlinks to other web content both inside the Wiki (Spaces, Pages) and elsewhere (Web Link).
    • For advanced users who would prefer to work in Wiki Markup Language, this page contains the most common formatting commands. (Note: If you right-click the link and open in a new page/window, you may find it easier to consult as you work with your content).
    • If you would prefer to upload your comment via an attachment, please see these guidelines.
  3. Use Preview to see how your comment will appear.
  4. Click Save.

You may notice that there is no Edit Comment command available. Because the discussion is threaded, it is vital to maintain the integrity of all comments as they were originally posted. If an error occurs in a post and you wish to amend it, please click Reply immediately below the affected comment and state the correction. If something completely unacceptable occurs and it is imperative that a comment be edited/removed, please complete a Comments-How to Create & Reply and describe the circumstances and desired outcome. Each case will be evaluated individually to ensure that a substantive discussion thread is not adversely impacted by such action.

There is no auto-save capability for Confluence Comments and, as mentioned above, you cannot Save and subsequently Edit your comments. If you lose your network connection before saving, your work will not be retrievable. If your comments are going to be extensive, we advise users to draft them in a text editor on your local computer, saving periodically. Once you are satisfied with the final version, copy the text and paste it to the Add Comments box, make any final formatting adjustments, and Save.

To Reply to a previously submitted comment:

  1. Click   located below the text of the comment.
  2. Type in your response.
  3. Click Save.

You may notice that, at the bottom right corner of every Comment (or Reply), there is a symbol which is called a Permalink. If you right-click on that symbol and copy the address, you can link to that Comment from anywhere both inside and outside the Wiki. Of course, anyone connecting to that Comment would need at least View permissions to the Confluence site.
