What is At-Large?

"At-Large" is the name for the community of individual Internet users who participate in the policy development work of ICANN. Currently, more than 100 groups representing the views of individual Internet users are active throughout the world. You can learn more about the community and its activities on this website, as well as how to join and participate in building the future of the worldwide Domain Name System (DNS) and other unique identifiers which every single user of the Internet relies on every time they go online.

At-Large Community Participates in Survey

The At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) and the At-Large regional officers have prepared a global survey for all At-Large Structures within the At-Large community which is open 7 - 23 May 2010. The survey, available in English, Spanish and French, is divided into three sections: 1) ALS Survey 2010, 2) ccNSO-ALS Survey, and 3) Survey on ICANN's Geographic Regions. Live Poll Statistics are available.

The information gained from this survey is expected to produce invaluable information to the ALAC and At-Large staff that will increase their ability to provide support to increase participation and engagement within the At-Large community. A working group consisting of regional leaders will analyze the results of the survey and provide a report to the ALAC.

The 2010 At-Large Structure (ALS) Survey aims to get to know the ALSes better so the ALAC and At-Large staff can improve their support in order to increase engagement and participation. The information sought includes the current contact information for all ALS representatives and their alternates, to discover what policy areas the ALS Membership is most interested in, and to learn how they prefer to communicate with members of the At-Large community and ICANN At-Large staff. Additionally, the survey will assist in learning more about the types of At-Large engagement the ALSes are interested in, including the preferred working group format, and whether their Membership is interested in representing the At-Large community at local and regional meetings and contributing to the implementation of the At-Large Improvements project.

The questions of the ALS-ccTLD survey were prepared by Ron Sherwood, ccNSO liaison to the ALAC and Rudi Vansnick, ALAC liaison to the ccNSO. The survey is expected to help to identify the relationship between ccTLDs and ALSes by identifying the status of relationship(s) between ccTLDs and ALSes and learn which ALSes are at present being involved in local ccTLD activities.

The purpose of the third section, the community survey from the Review of ICANN Geographic Regions cross-community work group, is designed to assess the benefits and disadvantages of ICANN's Geographic Regions framework.

ICANN MEETINGS

ICANN holds meetings 3 times a year in locations around the world. These meetings constitute an essential part of ICANN's global consensus-development and outreach efforts and therefore members of the public should join face-to-face where feasible. Questions regarding hosting a meeting should be sent to meeting@icann.org. More about ICANN's international meeting and schedule can be found at ICANN Meetings.

Next Meeting: ICANN's 38th Meeting will be held in Brussels, Belgium 20-25 June, 2010.

Please submit your suggestions for agenda items on the draft Brussels At-Large Meetings Schedule.
