16:07:31 From Heidi Ullrich - ICANN Org to Everyone:
Welcome, All.
16:08:15 From Herb Waye Ombuds to Everyone:
Hello bonjour. Hoping everyone is healthy and happy.
16:09:28 From John McCormac - HosterStats.com to Everyone:
Some registrars use a control panel notice to alert registrants. The bounces is an interesting metric though.
16:09:42 From Dave Kissoondoyal to Everyone:
Hello everyone.. sorry for being late
16:10:11 From John McCormac - HosterStats.com to Everyone:
Will ALAC be recommending anything on this?
16:10:18 From John McCormac - HosterStats.com to Everyone:
(the bounces as a metric)
16:10:54 From Olivier MJ Crepin-Leblond to Everyone:
Will ask Alan // thanks @John
16:11:01 From John McCormac - HosterStats.com to Everyone:
It is an interesting proxy measurement of data quality.
16:13:01 From Justine Chew to Everyone:
Thanks @Alan
16:13:07 From Gopal Tadepalli to Everyone:
@Alan Greenberg ; @ John McCormac : After how many e-mail bounces can the mail Id be removed from the list? - Dr. T V Gopal, Anna University, Chennai, INDIA
16:13:13 From Hadia Elminiawi (ALAC-Participant) to Everyone:
Thank you Alan
16:14:46 From John McCormac - HosterStats.com to Everyone:
It is a good proxy if it provides data as the WHOIS data is more difficult to obtained.
16:15:49 From John McCormac - HosterStats.com to Everyone:
@GP It wouldn't be good to remove them. It would have to correlated with control panel logins.
16:16:47 From John McCormac - HosterStats.com to Everyone:
@Gopal It would be good to integrate things to increase the confidence in the data. (control panel logins/bounces).
16:17:21 From John McCormac - HosterStats.com to Everyone:
It certainly solves a lot of problems on the WHOIS angle.
16:19:09 From John McCormac - HosterStats.com to Everyone:
Many registrars also send billing/expiry notifications so of those e-mails bounce then it would be a sign of a future payment issue.
16:20:36 From Lutz Donnerhacke to Everyone:
Whois problems would be solved by decentralizing the access. So you get a chain of delegations down to the Registrar (or Reseller) and each return data according to the local law
16:21:06 From Gopal Tadepalli to Everyone:
Thank you for the nice responses. Due Diligence needs specified for "hard bounces" and "soft bounces.". I will catch up on the Wiki later. - Dr. T V Gopal, Anna University, Chennai, INDIA
16:22:20 From John McCormac - HosterStats.com to Everyone:
What would be useful for this would be knowing the number of one-hit-wonder (single registrant/domain names) in the gTLD set. Some registrants own more than one domain name and some may admin hundreds or thousands (Brand Protection registrars/operators).
16:23:08 From Alan Greenberg (ALAC) to Everyone:
Resellers are an issue in that some registrars delegate the reminder message to the reseller, and others do it themselves. So id it is an obligation, it would be an obligation on the reseller in those cases.
16:23:30 From John McCormac - HosterStats.com to Everyone:
@Alan Resellers can be a bit of a nightmare for this. :)
16:23:49 From Alan Greenberg (ALAC) to Everyone:
@John. Yup!
16:24:56 From Roberto Gaetano to Everyone:
There is a basic issue here, whether the responsibility of what the reseller does falls anyway on the registrar
16:25:29 From Roberto Gaetano to Everyone:
after all, it is the registrar who is accredited
16:26:48 From John McCormac - HosterStats.com to Everyone:
@Roberto The contracts would be the issue. It might be good to get some opinions from the lawyers on the meeting about this.
16:30:46 From Chokri Ben Romdhane to Everyone:
@Steinar @Lutz I think that lock period is not in the benefice of end-users and will not secure the transfer process
16:32:52 From Lutz Donnerhacke to Everyone:
@Chokri, please explain how to rewind a fraudulent Transfer
16:33:05 From Chokri Ben Romdhane to Everyone:
securing the transfer is a technical issue and nothing to do with policy as SSAC recomand
16:33:28 From Lutz Donnerhacke to Everyone:
Chokri, please allow me to smile.
16:33:31 From Alberto Soto to Everyone:
Sorry, I'm sorry I'm late.
16:34:22 From Chokri Ben Romdhane to Everyone:
Yes please @Lutz enjoy smiling Friends
16:35:48 From John McCormac - HosterStats.com to Everyone:
@Chokri Domain name thieves often bounce a stolen domain name through a number of registrars to make it difficult to recover the domain name. A shorter transfer lock helps them rather than protects the registrant.
16:36:52 From Roberto Gaetano to Everyone:
@Satish are you aware that registrars are absolutely against bundling because of the complication it creates to registrations management?
16:37:46 From Hadia Elminiawi (ALAC-Participant) to Everyone:
Registries are all for bundling
16:37:51 From Satish Babu to Everyone:
@Roberto, we are aware that the phrase "Bundling" has different meanings for different stakeholders...
16:38:40 From Lutz Donnerhacke to Everyone:
@Chokri, the Registrars are Aware of the Problem of fraudulent Transfers. They propose to buy a Profession Domain secuirty Service from them. So they want to make an addition business from weaking the security
16:38:42 From Satish Babu to Everyone:
"Bundling" was traditionally used differently by Registries, so we will be back with a better definition on what we mean from the perspective of variant management.
16:38:56 From Chokri Ben Romdhane to Everyone:
@Jhon as you have mentioned DN already stolen and the lock period will only delay , so we have to secure process in a previous stage not after stolen is made
16:39:00 From Roberto Gaetano to Everyone:
I am just thinking at my experience back with PIR about bundling .ong and .ngo, that failed because of the strong opposition of registrars
16:39:47 From Marita Moll to Everyone:
Most recent e-mails indicate that Holly would be preparing a short statement indicating that we had no issues
16:39:55 From Lutz Donnerhacke to Everyone:
Chokri, the Transfer Authoritation Code was introduced to drop all preliminary security mechanisms (those you are refering to)
16:40:07 From Justine Chew to Everyone:
@Roberto, there are RrSG reps on the EPDP on IDNs. IMHO it's not really the ALAC Team's job to highlight RrSG's concerns.
16:40:17 From Steinar Grøtterød to Everyone:
Is everybody aware of Internet Society Data Leaked? See https://www.infosecurity-magazine.com/news/internet-society-data-leaked/
16:40:27 From John McCormac - HosterStats.com to Everyone:
@Chokri Sometimes the DNS/MX details remain unchanged on the stolen domain name so that the registrant is unaware until it is too late.
16:40:48 From Chokri Ben Romdhane to Everyone:
@Lutz totaly agree that is over all a bussiness issue, so they tp puching the end user to pay more for a basic service
16:41:43 From Roberto Gaetano to Everyone:
@Justine I fully agree, but ALAC should avoid proposing something that will go nowhere - I am talking generally, nit about the bundling specifically, I am sure that the folks on the WG are doing a good job
16:41:43 From Lutz Donnerhacke to Everyone:
Chokri, please excuse me to fight such an attack to the registrant rights
16:42:12 From Justine Chew to Everyone:
@Roberto, understood. Cheers.
16:43:03 From Chokri Ben Romdhane to Everyone:
@Steinar yes another disaster of MemberNova platform a shared Azur reposiotry make in risk member data
16:50:56 From Hadia Elminiawi (ALAC-Participant) to Everyone:
This difference already exists
16:52:10 From Alan Greenberg (ALAC) to Everyone:
IDN gTLDs already exist from the last round.
16:52:48 From Alan Greenberg (ALAC) to Everyone:
Need to leave. Thanks all.
16:53:11 From John McCormac - HosterStats.com to Everyone:
IDN gTLDs are a strange set. Some are doing well but most are finding it difficult to market their gTLD. IDN ccTLDs have a natural market advantage.
16:53:32 From Olivier MJ Crepin-Leblond to Everyone:
some IDN ccTLDs are purely political
16:53:49 From John McCormac - HosterStats.com to Everyone:
@Olivier Political brand protection. :)
