Enumeration helps in deciphering the detailed information such as Hostnames, IP tables, SNMP and DNS, Application, Banners, Audit configurations and service settings. Enumeration systematically collects details. This enables the penetration testing to completely examine the systems. There are free and commercial software tools for the enumeration. The TCP ports are well known. Typical exercises include extracting usernames using e-mail IDs and extracting information using DNS transfer.
Network enumeration tends to use overt discovery protocols such as Network enumeration tends to use overt discovery protocols such as Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) to gather information. It may also scan various ports on remote hosts for looking for well known services in an attempt to further identify the function of a remote host. The next stage of enumeration is to fingerprint the operating system of the remote host. and SNMP to gather information. Software Defined Network (SDN) Controllers thrive on Network enumeration.
This is lot more than Network Mapping which only retrieves information about which servers are connected to a specific network and what operating system runs on them.
It is important to note that changing the Host does not necessarily require the transfer of the Domain Name. For many works and work arounds using software (including the Network Monitoring Tools) the well known data structures "A Record, CNAME Record, MX Record, TXT Record, SPF Record" serve brilliantly.
There are several free server monitoring tools for the discerning. The Domain Name System, is continually evolving on the aspects of security, stability, and resilience. So are the networking and programming tools and techniques.
The root zone of the DNS has been the focal point of many DNS conversations for decades. One set of conversations, which is a major preoccupation of ICANN meetings, concerns what labels are contained in the root zone. A separate set of conversations concern how this root zone is served in the context of the DNS resolution protocol. In my humble opinion, both these sets of conversations are equally important to be fostered.
In the same way that the notional IPv4 maximum packet size is 576 octets because ‘history’, there are 13 distinctly named root servers because ‘history’. Well, it is a fact that these numbers withstood the test of time in the rapidly changing technology domain. This is a commendable progress. Saying it "history" may be wiser than making any other numbers open for further challenges and debates.
It is not merely "Upward (Forward) Compatibility" that is desired. It is resilience. Resilience is a relatively new term in systems appearing only in the 2006 timeframe and becoming popularized in the 2010 timeframe.
Resilience is the ability to provide required capability in the face of adversity.
The means of achieving resilience include avoiding, withstanding, recovering from, and evolving and adapting to adversity.
My special thanks are due to Champika Wijayatunga, the then Regional Security, Stability and Resiliency Manager - Asia Pacific , ICANN for sharing the his slides with fantastic insights into the data structures, WHOIS and ROOT ZONE during 2014-2015.

WHOIS has been a complex issue within ICANN. It is useful to know certain analytics based on:
https://whois.icann.org/en/whois-complaints
Also useful is the Registration Data Access Protocol (RDAP) at:
https://www.icann.org/en/blogs/details/domain-registration-data-advanced-lookup-functionality-now-available-2-8-2021-en
PS: Programming languages support enumerated data type (enum). It is called factor in R Programming Language and categorical variable in statistics. Enumerated type maps a set of names to numeric values that are previously declared. For example enum (Hostname, IP Table) maps to (0,1) in ANSI C. This data type prevents programmers from writing illogical code on values of enumerators. Enumerated data also hides unnecessary details from programmers.

A tool to know some patterns in Multilingual Keyboards may be found at: https://www.lexilogos.com/keyboard/russian.htm
There are many non-trivial engineering compromises in what is presently being termed "Multilingualism".
There are many such free tools. My choice is driven by the specific pointer to Cyrillic Alphabet that came up in the CPWG Meeting chat on 03 November 2021.
I hope we have a wider range of experimentation to understand the rich interrelations between Native (Human) Language and the one that makes it connect to the machines.
