Statement of Interest for Working Group on GeoNames by Nkem Anthonia Nweke,

NKEM ANTHONIA Nweke is presently the Executive Director, Operations, DigitalSENSE Africa (DSA) Media, an ICANN certified At-Large Structure (ALS), the organizers of the Nigeria DigitalSENSE Forum series on Internet Governance for Development (IG4D) since 2009 and Nigeria IPv6 Roundtable from 2011; annual forums structured and hosted to serve multi-stakeholder desires.

NKEM also is a member of At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) through the Africa Regional At-Large Organisation (AfRALO) where she is playing actively in the Outreach and Engagement Committee, and is the secondary contact person at AFRALO.

Elected into the Executive Board of the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA) in 2017, Nkem is the current chairperson of the Audit Committee and a member of the Domain Name Policy Committee. Hitherto, she was a member of Stakeholders Engagement Committee and Communication and Publicity Committee in that order.

In 2011, she led experts team at DigitalSENSE Africa Media to coordinate the first West African Internet Governance Forum (WAIGF) hosted by Nigeria in Lagos on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Job functions comprise overseeing daily running of operations including staff welfare, perception management and coordination of the Nigeria DigitalSENSE Forum series on Internet Governance for Development (IG4D) since 2009 and Nigeria IPv6 Roundtable from 2011; annual forums structured and hosted to galvanise Nigerian multi-stakeholders.

She has been actively involved in the Nigeria Internet Governance Forum (NIGF) as the primary contact at the NIGF-MultiStakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) since 2013 for DigitalSENSE Africa Media.

Nkem holds a National Diploma and Bachelor of Art in Journalism and worked briefly with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) before moving into private practice in 2005.

An alumna of Diplo Foundation on Capacity Building on Internet Governance, and a regular participant at Internet Cooperation for Assign Names and Numbers (ICANN) public meetings, and presently the chairperson, Awba–Ofemili Development Union (ADU) Women Wing, Lagos State branch and a former Deputy Coordinator,, Justice Development and Peace Centre (JDPC).

In 2015, Nkem founded the Domain Name System (DNS) Women Nigeria to encourage adaptation, and usage of Nigeria country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) name, .NG, among Nigerians and particularly girls and women involvement in the DNS industry.
