Description

Based upon a foundation of work carried out by dedicated and specifically skilled individuals from ICANN's At-Large Community, along with committed and consistent support and engagement with key staff positioned across several departments in our Organisation, and with growing interest from community members and leadership from many of our Advisory Committees and Support Organisations, this group in the last ICANN Meeting in Buenos Aires began its evolution into an ICANN wide Cross Community Committee.

Mission

This Cross Community Committee works on the issues surrounding the particular needs of people who face challenges to participate in the work of ICANN, including but not limited to its Policy Development, Outreach and Engagement activities...

We recognise that many populations have highly variable 'Internet access and experiences', ranging from gaining the most basic access to the Internet and any ability at all, to participate in the Internet community; through to having equitable opportunities for full and effective participation as contributors in a fully representational and diverse Internet Community. These populations include: people with disability, indigenous, aboriginal or 'first nation' populations, and other vulnerable populations (a diverse category, including groups such as refugees, trafficked and exploited people, crime victims, etc.), and ICANN as a leading organisation with particular focus and mission within the wider Internet Ecosystem is taking a proactive approach to building better and effective diversity of input and engagement in its activities, in several ways including by utilizing the experience, skill sets, and interests of many of its existing and prospective Community Members, Staff and External Consultants in the activities of this Cross Community Committee on Accessibility, as we:

"Advance accessibility issues within ICANN by reviewing and tackling the particular needs of populations who face challenges to participate in ICANN ..."
