ABOUT

The Internet Society Trinidad & Tobago Chapter is the first English-speaking Caribbean Chapter of the Internet Society International, being a registered non-profit company incorporated in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

ISOCTT furthers the goals of the Internet Society International through

• Organisation of local meetings to discuss Internet related topics
• Raising awareness and promotion of its mission – Participation ICANN, Diplo Foundation and Internet Governance Forums

The Internet Society Trinidad and Tobago Chapter serves the needs of the local Internet community by providing education and raising awareness of Internet infrastructure development, Internet standards and experimentation, public policies and regulatory co-ordination regarding Internet content and services. ISOCTT also contributes to Internet governance by encouraging multistakeholder dialogue between the Government, the private sector, the technical community, academia and civil society organisations to collaboratively discuss local issues.

ISOCTT is aligned with the Internet Society International, a non-profit organisation founded in 1992 to provide leadership in Internet related standards, education and policy; and dedicated to ensuring the open development, evolution and use of the Internet for the benefit of people throughout the world. The Internet Society operates through sponsored events, developing-country training workshops, public policy, and regional and local Chapters such as ours. The Internet Society recognises the creation of our Chapter as   being crucial to representing the needs of the growing Internet community in Trinidad and Tobago.

Membership in the Internet Society Trinidad & Tobago Chapter is open to anyone who uses the Internet or who are interested in the social, technical and governance issues arising from the Internet. We conduct regular meetings and maintain mailing lists for members.  Interested persons can reach us at isoc-tt@googlegroups.com

ISOCTT’s formation is of significant importance as Trinidad and Tobago continues to diversify its economy away from the Energy Sector toward a Knowledge Society. Further, the Chapter champions the multi-stakeholder governance model to create effective citizen consultation and representation in the Internet arena.
