Thematic session:

The participants briefly discussed the chapter “Spectators or Players? Participation in ICANN by the ‘rest of the world” by Bill Drake and Milton Mueller. It was suggested that they would be asked to make a thematic sessions out of this chapter.

N Ashton-Hart from Staff suggested that everybody who wanted organize a thematic session would be contacted and asked to submit a detailed proposal, which would help to identify the slots for the thematic sessions and replace empty ones no later than February 6th. Staff will contact the those who have expressed interest in organizing such a session.

It was decided that the thematic sessions should be divided between Sunday and Tuesday. Thematic sessions that are likely to attract participants from other constituencies will be moved to Tuesday to allow for greater outside participation.

Poster session:

N Ashton-Hart proposed to combine the reception with the welcome party of the fellowship program. This suggestion seemed to be generally welcomed, although S Bachollet cautioned that the fellowship party was on Sunday and noted that it was important to have an event on Saturday. He suggested a less elaborate, cheaper event with soft drinks.

It was decided to combine the poster session with a small reception, which will take place following the general session on Saturday evening.

Public Workshop:

Several suggestions regarding the topic of the public workshop on Wednesday were made including: Cybersecurity, public participation within ICANN, Internet Governance.

H Ullrich from Staff will follow up with Margie Milam from ICANN staff on a possible Cybersecurity session.

Participant list:

N Ashton-Hart noted that some participants were experiencing difficulties with obtaining their visas. He added that KC-A, the event organizer company that would assist in the preparations and running of the summit, was currently preparing a list with the most difficult countries. Since the Mexican Government did not allow companies to represent individuals in visa matters, KC-A was looking into hiring local lawyers in Mexico to seed up the processing of the requests.

Next Meeting:

The next summit WG teleconference will be on Tuesday, 2 February at 2100 UTC.
