Information regarding the mechanism for Statement Development that is used in auDA Policy Making WEB PAGE. However in Synopsis: auDA uses a variety of advisory panels, committees (standing and ad hoc), and other consultative groups to help it develop policies and practices that are appropriate for the Australian environment, and responsive to user needs.

> These groups operate according to a few basic general principles:

  • membership is voluntary (but auDA has discretion to provide financial assistance where required)
  • members are appointed on the basis of their individual skills and experience, as well as the stakeholder interests they represent
  • meeting minutes are published on the auDA website
  • draft proposals and recommendations are released for public comment, before being submitted for auDA approval
  • secretariat support is provided by auDA.

5. Keith Davidson will present APTLD's case, regarding the approach from APTLD to support their stand on IDN ccTLD
(see Attachment section for document, and text of request from Don Hollander is below)

> _REQUEST FROM APTLD: One of the things that we would very much appreciate APRALO considering is the allocation of top level IDN ccTLDs on a very limited basis.
> IDN ccTLDs at the top level are the equivalent of the existing ccTLDs (allocated to a country or a territory), but in a script that is more useable to the cc's population.
> APTLD prepared the attached proposal for a FastTrack allocation of ccTLD IDN's on a very limited basis while ICANN goes through their more extensive Policy Development Process (which can take two years - or more!).
> APTLD has received endorsement from CENTR (the European equivalent of APTLD) who have a number of members directly affected.
> In a recent survey of members by both APTLD and CENTR, there were less than a dozen ccTLDs that expressed an interest in participating in the FastTrack option - but those members represent more than 25% of the WORLD's population.
> We would very much appreciate it if APRALO could consider supporting this very limited and controlled approach and to vocally show this support at the ICANN meeting LA._

Current Activity to date in the ALAC WG on this matter can be found at

  • Discussion of the matter and consideration of the following Proposed Motion:-

'That APRALO support the "very limited and controlled approach"; for an allocation of ccTLD IDN's, as proposed by the APTLD, for a FastTrack allocation of ccTLD IDN's, while ICANN goes through their more extensive Policy DevelopmentProcess; and to vocally show this support at the ICANN meeting LA.' Proposed: Cheryl Langdon Orr & Seconded: Gary So
