WHEREAS the ALAC has endorsed policy that rejects the report of the IRT,and has made that policy and its rationale clear at the Sydney meeting;

WHEREAS the ALAC is not anti-trademark in principle, and appreciates ICANN efforts to reduce bad-faith name-squatting, phishing and consumer confusion;

WHEREAS the ALAC is aware that ICANN requires a manner to protect legitimate trademarks as a part of the gTLD creation process;

RESOLVED that ALAC delegate three members of its gTLD Working Group:

  • Hong Xue
  • Evan Leibovitch
  • Patrick Vande Walle

to develop and propose a multi-stakeholder process to the ICANN CEO, intended to resolve differences between the ALAC and IRT in a positive and progressive manner. This group will attempt to implement a dialogue that is intended to identify areas of common ground, resulting in a joint proposal to be presented to the ICANN Board and senior staff.

This resolution is clear in intent and has my personal support. LACRALO members are encouraged to indicate support and request our ALAC representatives do the same.
