December Report 2018

December was pretty quiet due to end of year holidays globally. The December activities focused mainly on the updates of the EURALO Hot Topics documents from 2017 to December 2018.

A. The EURALO Task Force on ALS Engagement, Thursday, 13 December 2018

Follow up on discussions on the Task force on ALS Engagement can be perused via this link.

The text below was an email sent by the EURALO Chair, Olivier Crepin-Leblond (OCL) to the EURALO community members, about EURALO Hot Topics:

The EURALO Task Force on ALS Engagement has held a call on Thursday (see: https://community.icann.org/x/zQf_BQ

We briefly discussed the EURALO Hot Topics document which needs to be updated. A few days ago I emailed each EURALO ALS representative on record individually to get input. This is a reminder that we need more input on these hot topics.

Starting from the 2017 Hot Topics, the EURALO list of 2018 Hot Topics is on https://docs.google.com/document/d/1vvZoMJL2AcG2bK5vp-bxi6gr3uE8OJULdtpA3WbL32s/edit?usp=sharing

In your opinion, which of the 2017 topics would be worth keeping in EURALO’s focus in the coming year? What new topics would you like to add to the list? The current changes on the document reflect the discussions we had on today's call. We aim to conclude this exercise by January 2019.

B. Financial Year 2020 (FY20) Additional Budget Request (ABR)

The text below was an email sent by the EURALO Secretary, Wale Bakare (WB) on behalf of EURALO Finance and Budget Sub-Committee (FBSC) Representatives to the EURALO community members, on the EURALO proposed projects request:

Following the announcement for the Financial Year 2020 ( FY20) Additional Budget Request (ABR) to support At-Large community activities.

As part of the process, each RALO has been asked to submit their ABR-Y20 requests for funding. The EURALO Chair, Olivier MJ Crépin-Leblond has suggested to the 2018-2019 ALAC Finance and Budget Sub-Committee (FBSC) members from our RALO to expedite action on the proposals to be submitted to At-Large staff, on or before the deadline of 4th January  2019. However, EURALO had four proposals submitted for the ABRY19, unfortunately, none of the proposals was granted.

EURALO Chair and FBSC are now reviewing, trying to amend (with proposers) and to re-submit three of the proposals for consideration for the ABR-Y20.

The proposals are listed below:

1. Diversity in ICANN Leadership Bodies

2. Internet-of-Things (IoT) and the Increasing Governance Challenge Ahead IGF 2019 Workshop

3. Support participation of individual users in EURALO

As the amendments of the proposal have completed, the EURALO FBSC representatives kindly invite the EURALO members to read and comment on the proposal. The deadline for submission of these proposals is near, comments open today and close on 1200 UTC, 3rd January 2019.

C. Action Items

1. Roberto Gaetano to include some wording to the EURALO Hot topics doodle doc on Universal Acceptance.

2. Sebastien Bachollet to review the records of the last call of the Task Force on ALS engagement to find any Hot Topics that could be added to the document.

3.Jean-Jacques Subrenat to send to EURALO Board a proposed formulation on Hot Topics; “the discussion on regulation vs. deregulation; possible effects of proposed measures on ICANN and the multi-stakeholder model''

4. Wale Bakare to continue discussions on FY20 Euralo proposals via mailing list.
