Kimberly Carlson:Hi all, welcome to today's cc PDP on retirement call on 17 January at 11:00 UTC.
Bernard Turcotte:hello
Joke Braeken:hello everyone
Mirjana Tasic .rs:Hi all!
Patricio Poblete:Hello
Sean Copeland:Good Morning
jaap akkerhuis:I'll restart adobe since the flah thong is playing up
Svitlana Tkachenko:Good morning!
Kimberly Carlson:doc can be scrolled
Bernard Turcotte:all good here
Kimberly Carlson:Barrack is on audio only today
Nigel Roberts:hi
Nigel Roberts:adobe app is not being nice to me
Nigel Roberts:check audio
Nigel Roberts:noted
Bernard Turcotte:7 green ticks
Bernard Turcotte:no red ticks
jaap akkerhis:As advising expert on MA 3166, I probably shpuld stay out of this particular discussion
Svitlana Tkachenko:agree
Stephen Deerhake:OK, so we could barely hear Nick and Patricio jst blew out my speakers... I could not understand a word he said... AC issue?
Bernard Turcotte:My understanding of Patricio, I think, was its not about cooperation but rather about having a good plan?
Nick Wenban-Smith:Patricio a bit distorted but in essence yes I think. So for example the default might be set at (for example) 5 years. But by discussion and agreement btween the ccTLD and IANA that could be a longer period (up to a max of 10 years say) or even shorter perhaps if that's appropriate
Nigel Roberts:i am gettin serious interference when I connect audio
Kimberly Carlson:Nigel, if you DM me, i would be happy to dial out to you
Nigel Roberts:thanks will do
Allan MacGillivray:Bart - would there be a possibilty of a time extension after the default time period?
Nick Wenban-Smith:yes 5 years default even without agreemetn with IANA is about right I think
Nigel Roberts:its working if I disable my mic
Nigel Roberts:there’s a moral there
Данко Јевтовић (Danko Jevtovic):then extension should be possible?
Svitlana Tkachenko:5 years as default is reasonable with possibility to extend the duration (it ccTLD cooperate with icann and need more time)
Bernard Turcotte:7 green ticks, no red
Nigel Roberts:i have a mild preference for 10 to be blunt
Nick Wenban-Smith:I think 10 years is the carrot for the ccTLD to agreement something with IANA
Nigel Roberts:interests of the registrant .. thinking of the too cohort ones in the past
Данко Јевтовић (Danko Jevtovic):I beleive it is good to have managers motivation to get longer period
Nigel Roberts:short
Mirjana Tasic .rs:+1 Danko
Данко Јевтовић (Danko Jevtovic):but, we should alse care for the registrants - so that registry cannot make the period too short
Barbara:agree with Danko
Nick Wenban-Smith:10 years, 12 tops
Mirjana Tasic .rs:+1 Danko & Barbara
Nigel Roberts:I like 10 +2 extension possible
Данко Јевтовић (Danko Jevtovic):10 years ok, but extenios might be needed
Nigel Roberts:10 max
Svitlana Tkachenko:10 years max
Данко Јевтовић (Danko Jevtovic):not that I know of
Patricio Poblete:(Sorry about the audio earlier. I was walking through the park on my way to the office)
Patricio Poblete:(What I tried to say that rather than "cooperation", I would talk about action on the part of the ccTLD operator. There should be a default duration, but the ccTLD operator might present a case for a longer term)
Barbara:You sounded like Kraftwerk band, Patricio :-) (www.kraftwerk.com)
Patricio Poblete:LOL
jaap akkerhis:A country doesn;t need to cease to exist, it can just want to change it's code.
Patricio Poblete:I fully agree with Allan. This does not happen in a vacuum. Presumably, this is a consquence of important events happening in the real world, affecting the name of the country, or the very existance of the country.
Allan MacGillivray:Yes
Allan MacGillivray:Stephen - in community engagement sessions, will we be tieing the 10 year period to the believed maximum lenght of registrations?
Nick Wenban-Smith:yes, I think that's the logic
Patricio Poblete:We cap at 10 years
Patricio Poblete:You can only renew for the remaining time until 10 years
Barrack Otieno:10 Years is reasonable
Bart Boswinkel:But we ned to add logic tothis period
Patricio Poblete:I was talking about our max registration period. This is 10 years.
Barrack Otieno:I am in agreement Stephen
Svitlana Tkachenko:yes , 10 year is ok
Bernard Turcotte:Min 5 years - mas 10 years
Kimberly Carlson:Peter is the only one on audio only currently
Bernard Turcotte:8 green ticks no red ticks
Patricio Poblete:Are there scenarios where 5 years could be too long? I am thinking of a country changing its name and wishing to migrate quickly to the new code
Bernard Turcotte:Including peter
Bernard Turcotte:Peter (sorry)
Svitlana Tkachenko:Kimberly: add me (i can't click green tick)
Bernard Turcotte:9 green ticks no red
Svitlana Tkachenko:agree with Danko: interests of registrant are first.
Mirjana Tasic .rs:I ma supporting Danko's discussion, we should take care of registrants interest
Allan MacGillivray:Defer to Bart!
Nick Wenban-Smith:I agree with Allan's recollection plus also I think it's a PTI decision
Nick Wenban-Smith:Be good to get that clear with Kim
Patricio Poblete:Speaking as someone who has had sometimes to rubberstamp things, I can say that the final responsibility remains on the rubberstamper
Bernard Turcotte:;-)
Nick Wenban-Smith:It's midday here - peak productivity!
Kimberly Carlson:31st at 17:00 UTC
Bernard Turcotte:bye all
Allan MacGillivray:Bye all
