ICANN-accredited registrars and ICANN commenced a series of direct bilateral negotiations to amend and update the current Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA) in November, 2011. A [status report |^raa-negotiations-progress-report-01mar12-en1.pdf]was published prior to the ICANN Costa Rica meeting describing the status as of 1 March 2012.
The RAA negotiations have resumed and are currently underway. The tentative schedule of RAA negotiation meetings is as follows:
- May 10 teleconference
- May 16 full day teleconference
- May 23-24 two day face-to-face meeting in Washington, D.C.
- May 30 full day teleconference
Recent developments:
- Registrars and Staff have been reviewing & analyzing redlined versions of the RAA
- Staff published an updated status report of the RAA Drafting Team's recommended amendment topics as of 1 March 2012.
- Correspondence delivered from the Registrar Stakeholder Group on the status of the negotiations
- Law enforcement representatives produced updates to their recommendations with respect to two issues:
Negotiation Goals/Objectives
During the ICANN Dakar Meeting, ICANN and the Registrar Stakeholder Group announced their agreement to commence negotiations on possible amendments to the RAA to address recommendations made by law enforcement agencies and the GNSO, provide increased protections for registrants, to enhance security generally, and to increase predictability for all stakeholders.
