This academy, together with its cooperative mechanism involving ICANN and other regional partners, may also serve as a capacity-building model for replication in other economies and other regional localities.

Our objectives are as follows:

  • Help participants develop a proper understanding of the Internet by:
    • Building a solid technical foundation of how the Internet works.
    • Deepening participants’ understanding of the Internet ecosystem.
  • Enable participants to participate in Internet policymaking by:
    • Introducing the concept of Internet Governance, and the multistakeholder model of policy making.
    • Helping participants identify and familiarize with global IG issues.
    • Enabling participants to apply issues at the local and regional levels.
    • Building confidence in participants to speak up in international fora.
  • Spark and develop interest in global Internet trends.

Expected Outcomes

Participants will build confidence in and appreciation for multistakeholder processes, such as that found in ICANN and IGF platforms. Participants will be exposed to a range of Internet governance topics and will be able to stay connected to the APAC Internet community through the academy’s partnerships with regional initiatives.

Upon graduation, participants will be part of the APIGA alumni network, where regional organizations will continue to share information and participation opportunities on regional and global Internet governance-related events including IGF and ICANN meetings.

Each year, APIGA will be held for a week around July/August, and applications will begin around May.
