1) Describe the Trip in sufficient detail | I attended the eleventh EuroDIG in Tbilisi, Georgia between the 4th and the 7th of June, representing NPOC and thus ICANN, especially at ICANN’s booth. I flew to Georgia on the third of June and arrived in Tbilisi at 1am, 4th of June. I stayed in some motel close to the airport, before moving to the conference hotel at Rooms (Tbilisi). Unlike in Tallinn the previous year, the schedule was already quite packed with interesting sessions on day zero. I attended the following sessions on the day: On the fifth of June, I manned the ICANN booth from the beginning, which looked all too empty and in a little bit of disarray - all the brochures were just dumped on it, so I set up the desk of the booth and started answering questions about ICANN and NPOC from random curious people, mostly from Georgia or Russia I assume. I also attended some of the most interesting sessions of the day, namely: Dimitry Kumsishvili, Vice Prime Minister of Economic and Sustainable Development of Georgia Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society (video message) Sandra Hoferichter, Secretary General EuroDIG PL 1: Bridging the urban-rural digital gap – a commercial or community effort? WS 2: Privacy is everywhere: how to deal with emerging problems? WS 4: DNS quo vadis – addressing challenges and the future functionality of the DNS ...and the gala at 8pm, on a top of the hill of Tbilisi. On the sixth day, I was in the following sessions and sat at the ICANN booth at other times:: |
2) Explain the extent to which the Proposed Goals and Outcomes were accomplished (see above LINK to review the original Proposal): | 1) I spent a few hours at the ICANN desk representing ICANN and specifically, NPOC. 2) I managed to pique interest from several people in NPOC - for example, one of the UN cultural heritage organisations - she even joined us on a trip to the Georgian countryside. 3) We have included this trip to EuroDIG in our strategic plan for the year. It is the most important regional Internet governance meeting in Europe. 4) I was ambitious to do live reportage from Georgia, but failed. |
3) Additional information pertaining to this outreach Trip (optional): | |
4) Please fill out the date when you have completed this form: | 26-Aug-2018 |
