1) Describe the Trip in sufficient detail | Joan Kerr attended the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) held at the Palais des Nations, in Geneva, Switzerland from December 18th to December 22nd, 2017. The IGF is a multistakeholder event held in multiple locations to encourage dialogue about the Internet issues. The goals of education, promotion and networking. The themes for attending the sessions were access, inclusion and youth, here is a sampling of sessions attended ( 3 to 5 per day): Explaining Internet Governance to Friends and Family 101: How to Improve our Communication? Views and Perspectives on Gender Rights Online, for the Global South Additionally, participated at the ICANN booth to promote NPOC and speak with those interested in joining and participating through an organization. The networking with many people prove to be the most fruitful, where 4 people agreed to become members and support NPOC in its endeavours. |
2) Explain the extent to which the Proposed Goals and Outcomes were accomplished (see above LINK to review the original Proposal): | The primary goal of the trip was to outreach, engage, and exchange ideas about Internet Governance with the civil society attendees. Another goal was to promote ICANN and NPOC to encourage participation in the policy development process. This event is attended by those involved in Internet Governance and the aim is to share ideas and best practices, making it a good place to network and collaborate. |
3) Additional information pertaining to this outreach Trip (optional): | The IGF is a multistakeholder event, where civil society shares ideas, dialogue and, perhaps debate on issues, showcase projects while maintaining a neutral foundation. It's about the dialogue and the interaction, which makes it unique for attendees. It is important for NPOC to participate, especially to host a workshop in the future. |
