Competition in redemption grace period services (so that registrants may select their own competitively-priced redeeming registrar)

short grace periods are an issue (often with term length unspecified in the registrar's TOS agreement)

ICANN's Mike Zupke has stated: "ICANN is proposing that changes be made to make whois privacy services more safe, but ultimately, for there to be a change in policy, it must be made through a bottom-up community-based policy development process." The ALAC should invoke the Annex A Advisory Committee Initiation process so that a PDP on privacy services may begin. The upcoming monthly meeting would be a good time to get this done.

The conduct of registrars is abysmal. It should be easier to leave a registrar and registrars should not be able to engage in domain speculation or takeover of expired domains.

Hi
The GNSO is starting a 120 day working group on WhoIS, in which the ALAC will participate. Maybe it might make sense to see what comes of that before we request the PDP. The ALAC is starting a PDP request on domain tasting and the add grace period. Our internal deadline for the request is April 30th.

The above list seems very thorough, here are some additional issues.

-Registrar involvement in expired/expiring/dropped domains
-ICANN relationship with ALSs
-ALS participation in processes
-Dispute resolution without UDRP process (registrant support)
-Historical records of domian transactions
-Security of WHOIS data
-Monopolistic practices among registrars/registries
-ICANN fees
-The domain aftermarket
-DNS reliability in cases of registrar malfunctions (ie: directNic knocked offline due to hurricane)
-Security of registrar data
-IPv6 implementation
-Domain transfers among registrars

aloha,

from Vanda Scartezini
I am not seeing topics related to IGF as part of ALAC work, though I probably am not looking at the right place. Considering IGF has already an agenda and this agenda has a lot of issues: Critical Resources; Access; diversity; openness; development/capacity building;security and the way they may be presented as far as I know, may be not aligned with general ICANN's interest, I would like to see more clearly how ALAC is dealing with those themes, which are the role/ participation of ALAC at IGF, how the community can contribute with ALAC re these topics.
