Yesim Nazlar:Welcome to the ALAC Subcommittee on Finance and Budget (FBSC) Call on Thursday, 09 February 2017 at 17:00 UTC
Heidi Ullrich:Hi All!
Dev Anand Teelucksingh:Hello All
Javier Rua-Jovet:hello to all
Ali AlMeshal:hi all
Glenn McKnight:Connecting the 3 billion users to the Internet session still on
Glenn McKnight:@maureen I sent you some slides
Maureen Hilyard:Hi all.. I am in the middle of a storm.and it will cause havoc with our satellite connection so my AC and phone link may drop occasionally
Heidi Ullrich:Take care, Maureen!!
Glenn McKnight:Its just cold here -9 C
Maureen Hilyard:We are thankfully down to 24.. nice..
Nadira ALARAJ:How RALOs workshops are submitted. Why there are not coordiantion?
Heidi Ullrich:@Nadira, RALO coordination was requested. Often, the RALO leaders coordinate the requests.
Dev Anand Teelucksingh:Sounds good, hope it gets approved since a coordinated At-Large approach is sorely needed
Glenn McKnight:@Nadira yes the coordination is critical in the delivery of workshops and outreach
Nadira ALARAJ:Thanks @Heidi for your explanation
Nadira ALARAJ:Thanks Glenn
Humberto Carrasco:Hello
Maureen Hilyard:@Alan that was a rather quick change, but my question so where does this leave the ALAC and the RALO requests?
Humberto Carrasco:Soory I am late
Yesim Nazlar:welcome Humberto
Glenn McKnight:@dev i willl go over it with you on the conclusion of the call
Glenn McKnight:I assume these proposals are moving forward
Maureen Hilyard:I laughed when I saw that..
Javier Rua-Jovet:Im joining @Glenn's assumption....
Javier Rua-Jovet:good
Glenn McKnight:ok
Glenn McKnight:thanks for the clarification
Javier Rua-Jovet:Yep. I have never understood this.
Glenn McKnight:The InSIG is a great event and well received and the video producer was amazing
Maureen Hilyard:WE can leave CROPP for other members
Javier Rua-Jovet:yes Humberto
Dev Anand Teelucksingh:See Humberto on the AC
Humberto Carrasco:indeed
Humberto Carrasco:I am here
Dev Anand Teelucksingh:So are we talking about O&E and Capacity Building to come up with materials - because there is also work being Community Onboarding being done by the O&E
Glenn McKnight:We have lacked training of new officers of the RALO's. The training should be tied to the job descriptions and metrics of performance ie. communication, engagement etc
Glenn McKnight:Lack of assessment ie. 360 review of the RALO leaders has us in a bubble
Humberto Carrasco:thanks heidi
Glenn McKnight:Training and Evaluation are hand in hand
Humberto Carrasco:ok
Glenn McKnight:Training for the sake of training without relevance is a wastte of time
Heidi Ullrich:@Glenn, the LaCRALO request is to train leaders within LACRALO.
Daniel K. Nanghaka:Even the New ALSes have never gone through training if am not mistaken
Glenn McKnight:Yes i realize that
Daniel K. Nanghaka:They get onboard and are not briefed and have limited or no idea of what to do
Heidi Ullrich:@Daniel, the new ALSes having an onboarding program for staff and are given resources when they join. They also have access to the At-Large Capacity Building Webinars.
Heidi Ullrich:However, much more onboarding is needed as well as a 'journey' for new ALSes.
Yesim Nazlar:Sarah Kiden has joined us on the phone bridge
Dev Anand Teelucksingh:But that's what the Community Onboarding is trying to do
Heidi Ullrich:@Dev, the community onboarding is currently at a small scale for individuals. Onboarding for all ALSes is needed
Maureen Hilyard:+1 Heidi
Glenn McKnight:If you want engaged and active new members a process is required to identify their interest and providing relevant an timely training or mentoring
Humberto Carrasco:ok alan
Dev Anand Teelucksingh:and that program is continuing - and it can scale if online
Glenn McKnight:We don't have a stick to force new ALS to join the Webinar or orientation sessions.
Maureen Hilyard:But how do you engage ALS members who can't access the online material
Maureen Hilyard:Sometimes its only the leaders who actually have internet
Glenn McKnight:@Maureen we have discussed the Rachel Serval model
Dev Anand Teelucksingh:@Maureen how are ALS members aren't able to access the online material ?
Glenn McKnight:We did to recognize that alot of people have specific interests that need to be identified and recruit them into working groups etc to make them feel welcome
Cheryl Langdon-Orr (CLO):whatever
Daniel K. Nanghaka:There is a challenge of Dormant?Inactive ALSes - How do we measure that a member is active or not and yet they do not participate in WGs. This is a big challenge especially the fact that the members engagement in PDPs is important
Maureen Hilyard:@Dev I'm talking about ALSes where the leaders actually distribute materials and information to the members who don't have access..
Cheryl Langdon-Orr (CLO):these figures are astonishing IMO
Maureen Hilyard:In my ALS only about one quarter of us have internet at home.. the others only have access at work, and can't use the internet unless for work
Dev Anand Teelucksingh:@Maureen, then great, online materials can be given on flash drives.
Maureen Hilyard:OK
Dev Anand Teelucksingh:I think paper wouldn't work practically
Maureen Hilyard:@Dev not interested in paper..
Glenn McKnight:This is why we produced our new NARALO brochure as a E Version only
Maureen Hilyard:even brochures are a hassle to cart around some time
Cheryl Langdon-Orr (CLO):and yes it guarantees rejection and does all of us reputation harm
Glenn McKnight:Note Dev did a great job on the LACRALO ALS Membership list which is a PDF summary of all the ALS in LACRALO
Heidi Ullrich:Silvia will take notes when I leave
Glenn McKnight:I am working on our NARALO GA which includes our agenda, ALS profiles and a list of resources . I will share it when done in a Ebook format
Dev Anand Teelucksingh:but having online materials synced for offline download can work - but I just seeing different groups trying to develop different materials to achieve the same result when we - At-Large- should be cordinating the development of such materials
Maureen Hilyard:AGREE ++
Humberto Carrasco:no more comments
Humberto Carrasco:I believe is interpretation
Javier Rua-Jovet:I think it means interretation
Javier Rua-Jovet:interpretation
Dev Anand Teelucksingh:Never seen this proposal at all
Dev Anand Teelucksingh:I see
Heidi Ullrich:Alan agreed to accept it.
Heidi Ullrich:I will drop off now. Silvia will take notes.
Maureen Hilyard:Can't they do our courses? And get an ICANN certificate?
Heidi Ullrich:Well done to all who submitted proposals!
Maureen Hilyard:"our" as in ICANN Learn
Alfredo Calderon:@Heidi, thank you for your constant support.
Javier Rua-Jovet:@heidi thx 4 everything
Javier Rua-Jovet:old hand
Glenn McKnight:I don't understand the value of this proposal
Glenn McKnight:A certificate issued, does this have intrinsic value?
Glenn McKnight:What is the valuation
Cheryl Langdon-Orr (CLO):3rd party ( uni) certificate
Glenn McKnight:like BBB
Dev Anand Teelucksingh:I honestly see no value in a certificate
Javier Rua-Jovet:I dont understand the value
Maureen Hilyard:Does it commit the participants to involvement in At-Large
Ali AlMeshal:no
Dev Anand Teelucksingh:Are you asking participants?
Humberto Carrasco:yes
Erich Schweighofer:Better preparation - why not next time.
Maureen Hilyard:@Erich +1
Glenn McKnight:It needs to have more rational explanation on the rate of return
Ali AlMeshal:I vote for Nokia
Ali AlMeshal:sorry no
Maureen Hilyard:One of our applications wrote more than this application and was told that the request was rather thin...and we had to add more justification
Maureen Hilyard:applicants I mean
Maureen Hilyard:APRALO has appreciated the feedback
Javier Rua-Jovet:it will live!
Silvia Vivanco:Thank you all
Javier Rua-Jovet:bye
Nadira ALARAJ:Thank you
Humberto Carrasco:Bye
Dev Anand Teelucksingh:bye all
Alfredo Lopez:saludos a todos
Erich Schweighofer:Servus from Vienna
Daniel K. Nanghaka:bye
Ali AlMeshal:Bye ALL
Cheryl Langdon-Orr (CLO):bye
