Summary
On 13 June 2013, the GNSO Council initiated a Policy Development Process (PDP) on the translation and transliteration of contact information. At its meeting on 20 November 2013, the GNSO Council adopted the Charter for the PDP Working Group, which has had its inaugural meeting on 19 December 2014. The Group is expected to address the following issues:
- Whether it is desirable to translate contact information to a single common language or transliterate contact information to a single common script.
- Who should decide which party(s) should bear the burden of translating contact information to a single common language or transliterating contact information to a single common script.
ALAC Engagement Opportunity Status
So far, the WG has attracted 19 volunteers. Membership will remain open to all interested parties. Additional opportunities for input will occur through the outreach from the WG to the different SO/ACs for substantive input as well as later on following the publication of the Initial Report for public comment.
