This hybrid session brought together 66 attendees onsite and 45 online. The highlights of the hour-long session were : i) a readout of the APAC Regional Plan including FY24 Achievements and FY25 Highlights, and ii) a discussion on World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)+20 Review. These agenda items were followed by an open community discussion facilitated by Boyoung Kim from the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA). In the end, onsite participants took time to network.

The session began with Yien Chyn (ICANN org) introducing the APAC Space agenda. Samiran (ICANN org) welcomed those who joined and provided an introduction to APAC Space, given that we had a fair number of new attendees in the audience including ICANN81 fellows and NextGen attendees. As the first agenda item, outgoing ICANN board member Edmon Chung delivered a farewell address, followed by incoming ICANN board member Amitabh Singhal introducing himself to the regional community members and sharing his priorities for the next three years as a board member.

Samiran provided a readout of the achievements of the regional plan for FY24. The FY2024 APAC Regional Report covers the period July 2023-July 2024, detailing out engagement activities related to ICANN's strategic initiatives. The report is available here.

Next, Ian Sheldon (Australia GAC representative), along with Jennifer Chung (DotAsia) and Angela Wibawa (ICANN org) initiated a discussion on the upcoming World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS+20) Review, which is due to conclude next year. Angela shared key talking points from an ICANN org perspective on WSIS+20 Review as well as the recently adopted Global Digital Compact (GDC). The thrust of the conversation remained on the importance of APAC community members proactively reaching out to their governments and representatives to inform them of issues related to Internet Governance policy making and that these discussions should be held in multi-stakeholder forums. The important role of the technical community in such discussions was also stressed.

Boyoung opened the floor for a community discussion. Topics covered included Internet Coordination Policy 2 (ICP2) review, WSIS+20 Review, Universal Acceptance (UA)/ Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) etc. Community veterans supported the conversation in making it easier to understand for newcomers. ICANN Board Member Sajid Rahman spoke about ICANN Board’s priorities to conclude the session.
